The Sports Science Behind Our Tools
Unlike generic fitness calculators, every tool in MyNextRow utilizes the authentic physics formulas established by Peter and Dick Dreissigacker when engineering the Concept2 Performance Monitor (PM).
The Cubic Drag Formula
Water resistance scales with the cube of velocity: doubling boat speed requires eight times the power. The Concept2 Performance Monitor computes mechanical power from 500m split pace via Watts = 2.80 / (pace_seconds / 500)³.
Paul's Law Scaling
Established by coach Paul Smith, fatigue across sustained rowing efforts compounds predictably: 500m split increases by ~5 seconds for each doubling of distance in well-conditioned aerobic athletes.
